I've become one of them...
How did this happen? I've become one of those people...you know, the ones who give you unwanted and usually stupid advice without you asking for it. I swore after being pregnant and being told the stupidest things ("Eat macaroni and cheese, that will put you into labor"...are you kidding me?) that I would try my best not to be an annoying mom spouting advice like I'm a frikkin Dr. Spock or something.
It didn't really work out.
So, I'm in Babies R Us perusing the eczema creams and I overhear a girl and her mom picking out things for her baby registry. They start discussing registering for diapers, newborn sizes and I can't help but blurt out to these complete strangers "My baby weighed 8-14 and came home in size ones. I wouldn't register for many newborn diapers." They look and me and seem appreciative, the girl thanks me for my advice. They start to move on, and oh no here it comes again "But if you do get a lot of sizes that don't fit you can return them to Walmart. They usually take them back or let you exchange them for a bigger size." Cue the silent look between the mother and daughter as they silently back away before the crazy girl keeps spouting advice or tries to steal their scanner and just do the whole registry for them.
I just hung my head in shame and moved on to find the level two nipples.
Later on in Target I manage to keep my mouth shut as I see the same thing happening- mother and daughter registering for a crapload of newborn size diapers. I think my restraint had something to do with the mom's two inch black roots, that raspy voice that only comes with years of tobacco abuse, and her neck tattoo.
Watch out America...the unwanted advice giver may be coming to a baby aisle near you.

My husband will kill me when he finds out about this...
My lovely husband (hereby known as Farmboy) is going to kill me when he finds out about this. He hates blogs. He thinks they are stupid. Do I care? Not really. I love reading the witty observations of life of some of the other mom bloggers. I want to be them. I want to be funny. I want to share the inane details of my life with the world. I'm not asking for a cult following. I just hope that if someone comes across my blog and takes the time to read it, they will be somewhat amused.
So. In order to remain somewhat anonymous, let's just call me Buckeyemama. Can you guess where I live from my name? I will tell you, yes, I live in the great state of Ohio. Buckeye born, Buckeye bred, and when I die I'll be Buckeye dead. I am an obnoxious Ohio State fan. I am a nurse by profession. I work in surgery and loooooove it. Farmboy and I have been married for about a year and a half now. We're one of those cheesy "We knew each other in high school, then magically reunited years later" stories. Never have I met another person who is so much like myself. I call him Farmboy because, well, he's a farmer. Right now we don't live on a farm per se, but we are working towards buying a farm in the near future. Farmboy's family raise hogs, wheat, soybeans, corn, hay...dabble in chickens, goats, sheep, growing their own garden. We were both in 4H and FFA when we were younger and want to raise our kids to do the same. For now, Farmboy is a slave to the 40 hour workweek. He is a union electrician.
We had been married for 6 months when I found out I was pregnant. Was it planned? No. Were we surprised? Yes. I am aware that this is 2009 and if a girl doesn't want to get pregnant, she can take measures to make sure it doesn't happen. But, I thought I was smart and I'd use my college education to figure out the rhythm method. Let's just say it didn't work out for us. Apparently someone out there wanted us to have a baby. So, fast forward 9 months to November 19th 2008. Our son, Terdface Dreamkiller is born. (Obviously this is not his name. Please don't get all defensive about his nickname. We love the kid to death.) The two of us became a three of us and two clueless 20somethings embarked down the long and winding road known as parenthood. I thought I was prepared. I knew I was not naive. I knew about the crying, and the sleepless nights. Nothing, and I mean nothing, could have prepared me for motherhood. No amount of books or advice handed down from a fellow mom. Even now, with TFDK 11 weeks old, I'm still in awe of the fact that I have a baby. It's just so strange. When he's with me, I want everyone to acknowlegde that fact that I created this little person and he is beautiful. When he's not with me, I feel like at any time I could blurt out "I have a baby he's 11 weeks old he's the cutest baby I've ever seen and I made him and he's mine all mine" (or something along those lines.)
It's him that made me create this. I want to share with the world. I want to share those stories of blowouts at the mall, milestones, and of the overwhelming love, guilt and worry that come with being a mom. But I hope to also share the things that amuse me from day to day.
So, welcome to my life. Hopefully you walk away with a little smile on your face. If you don't? I don't care. For now, I have someone in my life who thinks I can do no wrong. And that's what keeps me going on 4 hours of sleep.
